History is made on ‘Big Brother’ as Taylor Hale becomes first Black woman to win

On the Season 24 conclusion of Big Brother, Taylor Hale became the first Black woman to win the program, making history or her story.

We all knew she had it in the bag after what some viewers termed the “greatest speech in Big Brother history” after Monte Taylor won the final Head of Household competition and elected to take Taylor to the final two with him.

Taylor declared to the jury members in her final appeal, “I’ve conquered so much in this game, and I’ve realized that I’m not a shield. I am a blade. I am not a helpless victim. I have triumphed. If there is one word to summarize the entire season, it will be resiliency. If you were to ask who has been the most resilient this season, the answer would be me.”

“We can have the same Big Brother triumphs we’ve had in the past, but I challenge you jury members,” Taylor concluded. “I’m pushing you all to determine what kind of winner you want this year. Do we want the same thing, where evictions and comp victories are seen as the way to success? Or do we want a champion who chooses resiliency and persistence as reasons to win this game? I’ve never given up on myself, and I refuse to do so now, especially because I’m seated next to such a formidable opponent. Jury members, I challenge you to make the difficult decision to change the direction of the game and select progress for the sake of the game’s progress. I can be with the winner of this season, and I guarantee you that choosing me tonight will not be in vain.”

Speaking of Big Brother history, Taylor was not only the first Black woman to win, but it was also the first time in Big Brother history that the final two houseguests were a Black man and a Black woman, and the first time in Big Brother history that the winner also won “America’s Favorite Houseguest,” solidifying a massive $800,000 cash prize for Taylor.

Taylor winning both trophies was not only historic but also significant, especially given that she had been the recipient of abuse and microaggressions from her fellow houseguests early in the season. Fortunately, the emergence of the Leftovers alliance reversed Taylor’s abuse. On Sunday, her fellow HGs voted 8-1 in support of “the season’s face and sword.”
