**LOS ANGELES, CA** — [November 2024] — Humanity Heroes, a leading nonprofit serving Los Angeles County’s unhoused community, will host its fourth annual Thanksgiving event on Skid Row on November 17. The organization, known for distributing 10,000 “humanity packs” annually over the past decade. It has partnered with 15 nonprofits under the banner of Skid Row United to provide comprehensive services to one of the nation’s largest homeless populations.
“Our mission has always been direct action and immediate impact,” says Amy Simpson, fundraising manager at Humanity Heroes. “With over 50,000 individuals experiencing homelessness in Skid Row on any given night, the need for comprehensive support services has never been more critical.”
The event will offer:
– Hot meals for over 400 individuals
– Mobile ICU services
– Mental health and addiction support
– Hot showers and foot washing stations
– Professional haircuts
– Pet feeding stations
– Specialized services for women and children
Founded by entrepreneur , Michael “Big Mike” Straumietis, Humanity Heroes has invested significantly in supporting the unhoused community. He has invested over 3 million dollars over the years. Also he’s provided over 50,000 Humanity Packs and monetary donations to other local nonprofits.
“What makes our approach unique is our commitment to reaching those often overlooked by traditional support systems,” explains Amy. “We recognize that building trust within the Skid Row community is essential for creating lasting impact.”
The organization maintains a warehouse facility that is a hub for coordinating with other nonprofits, allowing for efficient distribution of essential supplies and resources throughout the year.
