In-Home Sauna’s to Keep You Hot

One of the greatest health benefits for the body is utilizing the sauna. By generating sweat through a combination of steam and heat a multitude of great things can happen.

First, you may not be aware there are four different types of saunas:

  • Traditional or regular sauna (also called ‘Finnish sauna’ or steam sauna): Similar to wood-burning saunas, electrically-heated saunas have high temperatures and low humidity. An electrical heater, attached to the floor, heats the sauna room.
  • Dry sauna: Wood is used to heat the sauna room and sauna rocks. Wood-burning saunas are usually low in humidity and high in temperature.
  • Steam bath or Turkish bath: Instead of dry heat, a steam room involves high humidity and moist heat.
  • Infrared therapy sauna: Special lamps use light waves to heat a person’s body, not the entire room. Temperatures are typically lower than other saunas, but the person sweats in a similar way. Usually, infrared saunas are about 60° Celsius.

But which one is the best?

The most popular is the dry sauna which I’m sure both you and I have tried, and felt amazing afterward. However, according to studies the infrared sauna is the best option because the light travels much deeper into the body by causing a more vigorous sweat, despite the lower (and more comfortable) temperature.

How popular is it?

According to Medium, in-home sauna sales went up 68% during the pandemic. Health has become a #1 priority for several households during this time and taking care of their families as best as possible.

Tips on Maintenance and Price

Most saunas require an installation where a professional will need to be involved. Family Handyman says, “Electric or infrared sauna kits are relatively easy to install, but you may need to pour a concrete slab (for an outside sauna) or add an electrical line.”

In regards to cleanliness, easily wipe down your sauna with cleaning supplies. Electric saunas will require a change in the heater.

Prices usually vary from $3000-10000. People have found saunas for less on various sites such as Facebook Marketplace. Please practice safety precautions when buying from an individual directly.
