The new documentary where Lizzo tells all about her story is finally almost here. The superstar posted the official poster for the movie that will be streaming on HBO Max starting November 24th for “Love, Lizzo”.
The singer and flute player’s journey has been interesting in recent weeks. First, the Library of Congress honored her with borrowing a 200 year old crystal flute that belonged to former President James Madison to play on stage. Not only was she the only person to play this flute ever but the Staff at Madison’s home in Virginia called Montpelier tweeted that they had invited Lizzo to come perform there.
Montpelier is a museum and memorial to the former president, who led the nation from 1809 to 1817.
This created a huge uproar with who Lizzo would say “white people” and she has since made several statements since to the Karens who are angry a Black person was given this honor.
Next, Ye has been on everyone’s newsfeed offending people with his words, and one of his recent statements was poking at Lizzo’s body type. The musician said “When Lizzo loses 10 pounds and announces it, the bots — that’s a term for like telemarketer callers on Instagram — they attack her for losing weight, because the media wants to put out a perception that being overweight is the new goal when it’s actually unhealthy,” he said.
“Let’s get aside the fact of whether it’s fashion and vogue, which is not. Or if someone thinks is attractive, to each his own,” West added. “It’s actually clinically unhealthy, and for people to, to promote that… it’s demonic.”
These attacks led Lizzo to speaking her mind and essentially tell everyone she’s minding her business and to mind theirs. She addressed both incidents. “When Black people see a lot of white people in the audience, they think, well this isn’t for me, this is for them,” she said. “The thing is, when a Black artist reaches a certain level of popularity, it’s going to be a predominantly white crowd.” The flute player goes on to say, “I am not making music for white people. I am a Black woman, I am making music from my Black experience, for me to heal myself [from] the experience we call life,” she said. “If I can help other people, hell yeah. Because we are the most marginalized and neglected people in this country. We need self-love and self-love anthems more than anybody.”
In regards to West, she was fed up, “I feel like everybody in America got my mother—ing name in their motherf—ing mouth for no motherf—ing reason. I’m minding my fat, Black, beautiful business!” Lizzo said in a video.
The documentary is a great opportunity for the world to get to know who Lizzo truly is as a person and an artist. The star has brought nothing but positivity through her music and as a human with her fun personality, self-love body image, and spreading love.
