My radio show added to the population growth – now my mission is to help them become homeowners

One radio show host with a 30-year career is responsible for a lot of babies being born—and she’s committed to housing all of them.

The former nighttime radio announcer dished the details on how she gives back to the same community that gave her so much air time. She is emphasizing health and legacy for people who may find it difficult to conceptualize in an uncertain economy.

“I was the number one radio personality in the Baltimore market for years and I was credited with adding to the population of Baltimore because I did this love show called The Quiet Fire,” Lolo Milliner said.

Milliner’s show set the mood for listeners, leading to a lot of children being conceived during her shows.

“We used to have these festivals in Baltimore called Stone Soul Picnic,” Milliner said. “And 17-year-olds and 18-year-olds would come up to me and say, ‘my mommy said I was conceived to your show.’”

The feedback led Milliner to an a-ha moment on how to improve her community.

“That’s why I went into real estate,” she said. “To educate people—that they could be homeowners—and to put those babies in homes.”

Committed to making real estate accessible, what sets Milliner apart from the rest is her emphasis on educating young people about owning a home—lessons they may not learn in school.

“When you’re just renting, you’re making somebody else rich,” she said. “When you have your own home, you can pull out equity, you can do a lot of other things.”

Milliner has also addressed a problem at the forefront of many people’s minds when making a large purchase—credit score.

“You have to educate people as well,” she added. “You’ve got to get your credit straight to get a loan—to do anything.”

Milliner kicked it up a notch, providing an educational and accessible approach to health and wellness—Healthy Encores/Lifestyle Festival based in scenic St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

“The primary focus is on diabetes—education and screening,” Milliner said. “Other topics that are covered are heart health, prostate health, internal health, chiropractic care.

“We have fitness, nutrition, and we added mental wellness.”

Milliner incorporates a comprehensive team of medical professionals from the U.S. mainland.

“My lead physician is from DC and my pharmacist is from the Baltimore, Maryland area and we take a team in,” she said.

“We also partner with Department of Health in St. Thomas and we provide educational seminars and health screenings.”

The events are not only health-conscious—they’re star-studded with celebrity guests whose lives have been affected by health.

“Last year I took in Regina Belle because I try to focus on artists that have a health platform or can speak to health,” Milliner said.

The Grammy and Academy Award-winning singer has been vocal about being a caregiver to her family members.

“We have a health fair on Saturday and a Diabetes Wellness and Diabetes Walk on Sunday in honor of my dad,” Milliner added.
