Today we lost dear Hollywood actor Robbie Coltrane, full name Anthony Robert McMillan. The actor, who was also a comedian and writer, comes from Scotland.
During his school years at Glasgow Art School, he was head of debating society at school and won prizes for his art. Majoring in drawing, painting and film, creativity began at a young age . The writer made a documentary called “Young Mental Health” which was voted Film Of The Year by the Scottish Education Council.
In 1980 Coltrane made his debut on television as “Border Guard” in BBC’s mini-series The Lost Tribe (1980). At this point he had already changed his last name to “Coltrane” and stage new “Robbie Coltrane”. Becoming known on a global scale began when he starred in two James Bond films. Of course his biggest role as Hagrid in the Harry Potter movie series.
During his lifetime, achievements did not stop with entertainment. Coltrane also married and had two children. Coltrane wrote and released an autobiography in the 1990s, “Coltrane in a Cadillac”, and also starred in the eponymous TV series, Coltrane in a Cadillac. In the series his passion for vintage cars comes to life and he tells a humorous story of when he took a 4000-mile journey across America from Los Angeles to New York.
Today the news broke that Coltrane passed at age 72. Rest in paradise.
